Home>Our Region>Lebanon County
Famous today for its spicy bologna, Lebanon County was once an industrial hotspot. The Union Canal, the Cornwall Iron Furnace, and Historic Schaefferstown offer fascinating glimpses into a time when this pastoral farmland was beginning to change. Today, our many rail trails and repurposed historic buildings offer new ways to enjoy our unique heritage. Or perhaps you'd just like to take a drive in the country! If so, don't forget your camera. Our expansive fields and wooded hills provide some spectacular backdrops. Visit the historic resort town of Mt. Gretna for some ice cream and swimming, or explore downtown Lebanon and experience our restored farmers' market. Shop for antiques, climb Governor Dick's tower, or do a little birdwatching at Middle Creek. No matter what you're into, you'll find it here.
Paddle along the Swattie in a canoe and see Lebanon County from a whole new perspective! Canal locks, abandoned railroad bridges, barns, farms, and even lava are evident along this ancient waterway. A day or two on the water is also a relaxing getaway, perfect for families with kids.
